For a linear acoustic perturbation of a uniform fluid,is the sum of kinetic and compressional energy densities. Together with the acoustic energy flux $\mathbf{I}=p^{\prime }\mathbf{u}$, it satisfies $E_t+\nabla \cdot \mathbf{I}=0$.
