 Character sum of a Dirichlet character

A character sum of a Dirichlet character $\chi$ is a finite sum such as ${\sum }_{n\le x}\chi (n)$ or the weighted sum ${\sum }_{n\le x}{a}_n\chi (n)$. Orthogonality of Dirichlet characters converts residue class restrictions to these sums.
