Conductivity homogenization replaces rapidly varying positive coefficients in a divergence-form elliptic equation by a macroscopic effective conductivity. Periodic media admit cell problems; statistically homogeneous media can instead be described by ensemble averages. The small-scale assumptions and boundary regime must be specified.
