Cosmology investigates the large-scale structure, expansion and history of the universe by connecting observations with physical models. A redshift and an apparent brightness do not themselves provide a unique expansion history: source calibration and the relation between geometry and distance enter the inference.
The cosmic microwave background, Type Ia supernovae and baryon acoustic oscillations probe different physical processes and epochs. A viable model must explain their combination using consistent assumptions about gravity, matter and initial conditions. Comparing such independent observables helps expose degeneracies that remain when one data set alone is fitted by an FLRW metric.
Cosmology is the scientific study of the origin, evolution, structure, and eventual fate of the universe. It seeks to understand the large-scale properties and behavior of the cosmos as a whole. Cosmology covers a range of topics, including: 1. **The Big Bang Theory**: This is the leading explanation for the origin of the universe, proposing that it began as a singular, extremely hot and dense point around 13.8 billion years ago and has been expanding ever since.
