 Deformation tensor in the Zel'dovich approximation

For an irrotational displacement $\mathbf{s}=-{\nabla }_q\Phi$, the deformation tensor is the symmetric Hessian $d_{ij}=-{\partial }_i{\partial }_j\Phi$. Its real eigenvalues determine the principal collapse directions.
