 Electrical and mechanical time scales in magnetic braking

The instantaneous-current approximation uses $I=\mathcal{E}/R$ and requires the electrical relaxation time $L/R$ to be negligible relative to the relevant mechanical changes. Otherwise circuit self-inductance changes the braking transient.
