 Härm–Schwarzschild instability

The Härm–Schwarzschild instability is the thin-shell thermal instability of helium burning in an asymptotic-giant-branch star. Heating greatly raises the nuclear rate while the geometrically thin shell initially expands too little to provide stabilizing cooling.
