 Index of a central simple algebra

If $A\cong M_r(D)$ with $D$ a central division algebra, its index is $\mathrm{deg}D$. It depends only on the Brauer group class. The index divides every finite splitting-field degree and equals the degree of a maximal subfield of the division representative.
