Internet service federation

ID: internet-service-federation

Internet service federation permits independently administered services to communicate through agreed protocols. Internet mail is an example: separate domains can exchange messages without every user joining one provider. Federation differs from placing many replicas behind one mandatory account authority, and it does not itself establish cryptographic confidentiality or freedom from software failures.[ref]
