 Markov approximation for a random medium

When a random medium's longitudinal correlation length is much shorter than the scale on which a propagating envelope changes, the Markov approximation replaces the longitudinal covariance by white noise with the same integrated covariance. Field-moment equations then become local in propagation distance.
