 Modulus in modular arithmetic

The positive integer $m$ in $a\equiv b(\mathrm{mod}m)$ is the modulus. It specifies which differences are ignored: exactly the integer multiples of $m$. It is distinct from the modulus of a complex number, which measures magnitude.
