 Nobili's astatic galvanometer

The historical Leopoldo Nobili instrument combines a many-turn coil with an astatic needle pair. In a common geometry one needle responds strongly to the coil while its oppositely magnetized companion reduces the terrestrial restoring torque.^[ref]
