 Synchronous gauge in cosmology

Synchronous gauge sets the lapse and shift perturbations to zero, $h_{0\mu }=0$. Its coordinates follow freely falling observers, but residual coordinate freedom produces gauge modes that must be distinguished from physical perturbations.
