 Thermally damped quasi-geostrophic mountain wave

Thermal damping makes the vertical wavenumber of a stationary topographic Rossby wave complex. A vertically propagating wave then decays while oscillating, whereas an inviscidly evanescent disturbance acquires both decay and phase tilt; both can exert wave drag.
