The reciprocal vector of a plane containing the real-space direction $[uvw]$ is perpendicular to that direction, giving $hu+kv+lw=0$ in consistent crystallographic indexing. For a cubic $[110]$ zone, allowed plane indices satisfy $h+k=0$.
