<Ami Ben-Amotz> is a researcher in algal <physiology>. His 1973 work with <Mordhay Avron> showed how <Dunaliella parva> can use <glycerol> in <osmoregulation>. Raising or lowering the surrounding salt concentration was followed by corresponding changes in intracellular <glycerol>.<The Role of Glycerol in the Osmotic Regulation of the Halophilic Alga Dunaliella parva by Ami Ben-Amotz and Mordhay Avron>[Abstract and salt-shift experiments; Plant Physiology 51, 875–878, 1973]{ref}

The lack of detectable <glycerol> leakage over the reported salt range helped distinguish passive loss from regulated production and breakdown. A changing cellular measurement can have several explanations; perturbing the surroundings while testing retention narrows those explanations.<The Role of Glycerol in the Osmotic Regulation of the Halophilic Alga Dunaliella parva by Ami Ben-Amotz and Mordhay Avron>[Abstract: glycerol retention above 0.6 M NaCl and interpretation of metabolic formation/degradation]{ref}
