Andrew J. Peel investigated efficient metalation of unfunctionalized aromatic compounds using mixed copper–lithium amide aggregates. The work connected aggregate composition with exchange behaviour, illustrating why an organometallic reagent's structure in solution can matter to its reactivity.[ref]

Aromatic compound 2026-11-05
An aromatic compound contains a cyclic conjugated electronic system whose delocalization gives the characteristic stabilization and response associated with aromaticity. Benzene is the standard example; an aromatic compound need not have a noticeable smell.[ref]

For a simple planar monocyclic conjugated system, Hückel's rule identifies the familiar pi-electron closed-shell pattern. The geometric and electronic assumptions matter: having a ring or alternating drawn chemical bonds alone is insufficient. Magnetic response, bond geometry and energetic comparisons provide complementary evidence, and some more complicated systems require descriptions beyond that simple counting rule.
