The boundary connected sum of two manifolds with boundary removes a boundary half-ball from each and glues the resulting hemispherical faces. Its boundary is the ordinary connected sum of the original boundaries.
This boundary gluing operation is related to the <connected sum>, but applies along boundary disks rather than removing interior balls.
