Boundary connected sum ($M♮N$)

The boundary connected sum of two manifolds with boundary removes a boundary half-ball from each and glues the resulting hemispherical faces. Its boundary is the ordinary connected sum of the original boundaries.

This boundary gluing operation is related to the connected sum, but applies along boundary disks rather than removing interior balls.
