For an infinite cardinal number κ, use cardinal arithmetic with the axiom of choice. If λ=2κ had cofinality μ≤κ, choose cofinal ordinals αi<λ, i<μ. Their cardinalities ai satisfy ∑iai=λ. The König theorem for cardinal numbers gives λ<∏iai+≤λμ≤(2κ)κ=λ, a contradiction.
