Cylinder surface charge induced by an exterior line (σ=−2πa(b2+a2−2abcosθ)λ(b2−a2))

For the real line at radius b>a and polar angle measured toward it, the exterior radial field gives σ(θ)=−λ(b2−a2)/[2πa(b2+a2−2abcosθ)]. Its integral around the circumference is −λ per unit axial length. At b=2a, this becomes −3λ/[2πa(5−4cosθ)]. The nearer surface has larger induced charge magnitude.
