A <matroid dependent set> is a <subset> of the <ground set> that is not a <matroid independent set>. By heredity, every <subset> containing a <matroid dependent set> is also dependent. Distinct <nonloops> are <parallel elements of a matroid> exactly when their pair is a <matroid dependent set>.
