<Dmitry Budker> develops optical methods for measuring weak <magnetic fields>. Resonant <light> interacts with an atomic vapor, preparing or probing atomic polarization whose evolution depends on the field. Measuring an optical signal therefore converts atomic magnetic response into a sensitive <magnetometer>. His coauthored review connects this method with geomagnetic sensing, detection of <nuclear magnetic resonance> and tests of fundamental symmetries.<Optical Magnetometry by Dmitry Budker and Michael Romalis>[Nature Physics 3, 227–234 (2007), abstract and resonant-light/atomic-vapor sensing]{ref}
