Downsizing in galaxy formation
= Downsizing in galaxy formation
Downsizing denotes the tendency for the characteristic <mass> of actively star-forming <galaxies> to decrease with time, together with related evidence that more massive quiescent systems formed their <stars> earlier or over shorter intervals. It does not assert that their <dark-matter haloes> assembled earlier: stellar formation and halo or stellar assembly are separate histories.
