Eddy-current damping
= Eddy-current damping
<Eddy-current damping> is <electromagnetic damping> in which motion of an <electrical conductor> through a <magnetic field> induces circulating <electric currents>, producing an opposing <force> and <Joule heating>. In the cart experiment it approximates <viscous damping> over the fitted range; spatial variation of the <magnetic field> or changes in <velocity> can limit that approximation.
