Guido van Rossum created Python, beginning implementation during the 1989 Christmas holidays and publishing it to USENET in February 1991, according to his account preserved in the Python FAQ. The motivation included making system administration easier than using C programs or shell scripts for the Amoeba environment, while designing an extensible language rather than an Amoeba-only tool.[ref]
Python combines high-level data structures, interactive execution and access to operating-system services. An interpreter can support quick experiments, while modules and extension interfaces let larger programs reuse code and connect to lower-level implementations. This technical combination helps explain the design's role without treating ease of writing an example as a guarantee of correctness or performance.
