The <Hall effect> is a transverse <electric potential difference> produced when an <electric current> flows through a material in a transverse <magnetic field>. The contact orientation fixes its measured sign. The <Drude conductivity and Hall experiment> gives an explicit convention and the limitations of inferring a <number density> from it.
