<Magnetic resonance imaging> with a prepared nuclear population imbalance exceeding ordinary thermal polarization under the imaging conditions. <Dynamic nuclear polarization>, optical spin transfer and spin-order transfer offer different preparation routes. Preparation and acquisition must account for <spin-lattice relaxation>, which erases the excess polarization.
