For irreducible X4+bX2+c∈Q[X], the Galois group is C2×C2 exactly when c is a square in Q. In the transitive Klein-four action on the roots α,−α,β,−β, all three nonidentity double transpositions fix αβ=c, forcing it into the fixed field Q.
