With constant equation-of-state parameter w, the cosmological perfect-fluid continuity equation becomes ρ˙+3(1+w)Hρ=0. Consequently
dtd(ρa3(1+w))=a3(1+w)[ρ˙+3(1+w)Hρ]=0,ρa3(1+w)=C.
(1)
The constant-equation-of-state density scaling includes ρ∝a−3 for pressureless matter and ρ∝a−4 for radiation in cosmology.
