4A
A central force has the form F=f(r)r, so it always points along the line from a fixed centre to the particle. Its torque about the centre vanishes:
dtdL=r×F=0,L=mr×r˙.
(1)
Thus angular momentum is conserved. Since r⋅L=0, the trajectory lies in the fixed plane through the origin perpendicular to L.
The area swept in time dt is dA=21∣r×dr∣, so
dtdA=21∣r×r˙∣=2m∣L∣,
(2)
which is constant. This proves Kepler's second law.
