The product sigma-algebra is
A1⊗A2=σ{A1×A2:Ai∈Ai}.
(1)
The product measure μ1⊗μ2 is the probability measure on this sigma-algebra satisfying
(μ1⊗μ2)(A1×A2)=μ1(A1)μ2(A2).
(2)
The measurable rectangles form a pi-system generating A1⊗A2. Any two probability measures agreeing on them therefore agree on the generated sigma-algebra by the pi-lambda theorem, proving uniqueness.
