Differentiating
L=−dxdp2dxd
(1)
with respect to time gives
Lt=−dxd(2pptdxd).
(2)
If pt=p3pxxx, then
Lt=−dxd(2p4pxxxdxd)=LA−AL.
(3)
Thus Lt=[L,A] is an Isospectral Lax equation, and (L,A) is a Lax pair for the Harry Dym equation.
