The space of test functions is D(R)=Cc∞(R). A sequence φj converges to φ when its supports eventually lie in a single compact set and every derivative converges uniformly. The distribution space D′(R) is its continuous linear dual; weak convergence means ⟨uj,φ⟩→⟨u,φ⟩ for every test function. We use ⟨u′,φ⟩=−⟨u,φ′⟩ and ⟨au,φ⟩=⟨u,aφ⟩ for multiplication of a distribution by a smooth function.
