The Fibonacci recurrence gives
an+1=Fn+1Fn+2=1+Fn+1Fn=1+an1.
(1)
The map x↦1+1/x is strictly decreasing for x>0. Since a3=2≥a1=1, applying this decreasing map reverses each inequality and proves by mathematical induction that
(−1)nan+2≤(−1)nan.
(2)
Taking even n shows a2n+2≤a2n, so (a2n) is a decreasing sequence.
