Extend the forcing oddly across the boundary:
fodd(y,s)={f(y,s),−f(−y,s),y≥0,y<0.
(1)
The initial displacement sinx is already odd, so its homogeneous evolution on the line is sinxcos(ct). Applying Duhamel's principle to the odd extension gives
u(x,t)=sinxcos(ct)+2c1∫0t∫x−c(t−s)x+c(t−s)fodd(y,s)dyds.
(2)
The odd-reflection method makes u(0,t)=0. At t=0 the double integral vanishes together with its first time derivative, so the prescribed initial displacement and velocity are also satisfied.
