The magnetostatic Ampère-Maxwell equation is ∇×B=μ0J. Substituting B=∇×A and using the Coulomb gauge ∇⋅A=0 gives
μ0J=∇×(∇×A)=∇(∇⋅A)−∇2A=−∇2A.
(1)
The free-space Green function of the Laplacian therefore gives
A(x)=4πμ0∫R3∣x−x′∣J(x′)d3x′.
(2)
For the thin wire current stated in the question this becomes
A(x)=4πμ0I∮C∣x−x′∣dx′.
