Ignoring the small radiative back-reaction, conservation of energy gives x˙=2(E−f(x))/m and Newton's equation gives x¨=−f′(x)/m. Integrating the Larmor formula with dt=dx/x˙ yields, for E>V0,
ΔERad=6πm2cq2μ0m/2∫0LE−f(x)[f′(x)]2dx.
(1)
If E<V0, the particle turns at x∗ defined by f(x∗)=E and traverses the accelerated region twice, so the same formula holds with twice the integral from 0 to x∗.
