No normal flow at a rigid wall gives ϕ(±1)=0. At a free surface y=1+η, the linearized kinematic boundary condition is
(∂t+U∂x)η=v=−∂xψ,
(1)
so (U−c)η=−ϕ. The linearized tangential momentum equation gives the pressure amplitude p=(U−c)ϕ′−U′ϕ. Constant surface pressure therefore requires
(U−c)ϕ′−U′ϕ=0.
