The Lorentz reciprocal theorem for Stokes flow states that two Stokes solutions (u(1),σ(1)) and (u(2),σ(2)) in the same fluid domain satisfy
∫∂Du(1)⋅σ(2)ndS=∫∂Du(2)⋅σ(1)ndS.
(1)
Apply it to the same rod translating with arbitrary velocities U1 and U2. The integral at infinity vanishes, and the rod-surface integrals give
U1⋅F2=U2⋅F1.
(2)
Since Fi=−RUi,
U1⋅RU2=U2⋅RU1

for every pair of vectors. Therefore
R=RT.
