The products xy with x∈L1 and y∈L2 span the field compositum L1L2 over K, so
[L1L2:K]≤d1d2.
(1)
The tower law gives
[L1L2:K]=d1[L1L2:L1]=d2[L1L2:L2].
(2)
Thus the degree is divisible by both d1 and d2. Since they are coprime, it is divisible by d1d2. Combining divisibility with the upper bound gives
[L1L2:K]=d1d2.
(3)
Equivalently, finite extensions of coprime degrees are linearly disjoint field extensions.
