In a Keplerian accretion disk, uϕ=RΩ=(GM/R)1/2. Substitution into the steady azimuthal Navier--Stokes equation and cancellation of the common Keplerian factors gives
ΣuRdRd(R2Ω)=R1dRd(νΣR3dRdΩ).
(1)
Since R2Ω∝R1/2 and dΩ/dR=−3Ω/(2R), this reduces to the standard viscous drift formula
uR=−ΣR1/23dRd(νΣR1/2).
(2)
The minus sign describes inward drift when νΣR1/2 increases outward.
