The Lagrange identity for this Sturm-Liouville theory operator is
y0L(y;λ0)−yL(y0;λ0)=dxd[p(y0y′−yy0′)].
(1)
Integrating from zero to one, the boundary term vanishes because both y and y0 vanish at both endpoints. Since L(y0;λ0)=0 and L(y;λ0)=f, it follows that
∫01y0fdx=0.
(2)
This is the solvability condition at a Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue.
