For a line bundle L on X, define the homomorphism associated to a line bundle on an abelian variety
ϕL:X(k)⟶PicX,x⟼Tx∗L⊗L∨.
(1)
The translation identity from part (i) gives
ϕL(x+y)≃ϕL(x)⊗ϕL(y),
(2)
so ϕL is a homomorphism.
Suppose M≃Ty∗L⊗L∨ lies in its image. Then
ϕM(x)≃Tx+y∗L⊗(Tx∗L)∨⊗(Ty∗L)∨⊗L,
(3)
which is trivial by the same translation identity. Hence ϕM=0; the image of every ϕL lies in the Identity component of the Picard group Pic0X.
