The leptons consist of
LiL=(νiL,eiL)T∼(1,2)−1/2,eiR∼(1,1)−1,
(1)
with charged-lepton Yukawa coupling −LLYeHeR+h.c.
Adding gauge-singlet right-handed neutrinos νR∼(1,1)0 permits the Dirac Yukawa coupling
−LLYνHνR+h.c.,
(2)
which gives MD=vYν/2. Because νR carries no Standard Model gauge charge, a Majorana mass term νRTCMRνR/2 is also allowed. For MR≫MD, the seesaw mechanism produces light neutrino masses of order MDMR−1MDT.
