Let Γ be a congruence subgroup. A modular form of integral weight k and level Γ is a holomorphic function f:h→C such that
f(γτ)=(cτ+d)kf(τ)
(1)
for every γ=(acbd)∈Γ, and such that f is holomorphic at every cusp. In terms of the slash operator for modular forms, the first condition is f∣kγ=f; the second says that f∣kσ has a Fourier expansion of a modular form with no negative powers in the local parameter whenever σ∈SL2(Z) sends infinity to a cusp.
