The parametrisation r(x,y)=(x,y,F(x,y)) has area factor
∣rx×ry∣=1+Fx2+Fy2,
(1)
so area(S)=∬D1+Fx2+Fy2dxdy.
For the unbounded saddle F=(x2−y2)/2, this factor is 1+x2+y2. Thus the requested integral is
2π∫0∞(1+r2)3/2rdr=2π,
(2)
which converges because its radial tail is O(r−2).
