7E
The Cauchy principal value deletes symmetric intervals around the real poles −1 and 1 and takes a symmetric limit at infinity:
PV∫−∞∞f(x)dx=limR→∞, ε↓0(∫−R−1−ε+∫−1+ε1−ε+∫1+εR)f(x)dx.
(1)
The integrand is even. The standard principal-value beta integral gives
PV∫0∞1−xaxs−1dx=aπcotaπs.
(2)
Taking s=1, a=6, and reversing the denominator,
PV∫−∞∞x6−1dx=−62πcot6π=−3π.
