Set Δ=0 and take ξr=Crℓ−1. The divergence equation then fixes
ξh=ℓCrℓ.
(1)
Hydrostatic balance gives δp=−ξrp′=ρgξr. The horizontal momentum equation becomes
ρω2ℓCrℓ=ρΩ2rCrℓ−1,
(2)
so
ωℓ2=ℓΩ2.
(3)
The radial equation gives the same result because ω2ξr=gξr′+g′ξr. This is an incompressible stellar surface mode: it changes the shape of the free surface without compressing fluid elements. For ℓ=1 it is a rigid displacement of the star in the fixed harmonic potential.
