A pulse is a localized disturbance that passes a fixed location during a bounded or effectively bounded time interval. A <travelling wave> pulse may be written $y(x,t)=f(x-ct)$ with localized $f$. Its width and peak <amplitude> describe its extent and size; a <wave packet> additionally emphasizes a carrier and an envelope.
